I had just turned off the kitchen faucet when my husband arrived home. “Close your eyes!” he began. “I have something for you. Hold out your hands!”

He knows that I wear layers in the House because I stay cold. His first gift was warm pajamas to keep me toasty as I lounge around the house. Then, he placed a new book in my hands. I had not asked for it but really wanted it. “Homebody”, the new book by Joanna Gaines, sat in my hands. I threw my arms around his neck and thanked him with words and a kiss.

He gave me these gifts on a rainy Monday night, for no particular reason, just because. His gifts made my heart leap with joy due to his thoughtfulness. He didn’t have to, but he did.

These are the first chilly days we’ve had this fall. His gifts to me put a warm blanket around my heart making me feel safe, warm and loved. I quickly put on the PJs and propped my feet up on the brown leather ottoman as I turned the book’s pages. Just reading Joanna’s words in the first pages ushered me into a welcoming journey with her as my guide to think of my tastes and likes/dislikes when decorating my home.

I needed that moment in time. We all need moments to embrace in our marriages and lives. Many times, I have chosen to remember the negatives and the “why can’ts”. But this night, I basked in the warmth of my husband’s love. I will remember this night and the tenderness in how he held me and looked at me forever.

The Bible tells us to think on specific things. Philippians 4:8 King James Version (KJV)

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Things to focus on:

Truth

Honesty

Justice

Purity

Loveliness

Good Report

In my life, I encounter the opposite of the words on this list so there’s a choice I must make. I can think about and dwell on what is true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of a good report or not.

I just wanted to focus on the good report that my husband ever so sweetly gave me two special gifts for no apparent reason. He showed his love and for this, I honor him. I am thankful for the truth that he loves me and cares enough to show it.

I sent him a truth picture last Saturday after he left for work which I placed below. I made his breakfast then kissed him goodbye then ate my sausage and eggs. Focusing on what is right can align our hearts and minds. I know that even in the midst of every day stress, my husband has to hear that I love him and feel the love. He absolutely made my heart skip a beat when he warmed me with his hugs, new PJs and the new book which were so lovely! I hope to keep finding ways to show him my love for him.

How do you focus on Truth, Honesty, Justice, Purity, Loveliness and a Good Report in your life and/or marriage?
