Did you ever stop and think?

This question was posed to my class today.  After reading a poem about the Earth and how humans have negatively affected the Earth, a child intently asked us, “Did you ever stop and think about what we are doing?”  This moment was pretty powerful.  I told him that I felt that his question should be a title of his next poem.  I am excited to see what happens with what he develops.

For me, though, I wanted to borrow his line:  “Did you ever stop and think?” I decided to write his line and end it differently each time.

Did you ever stop and think?

Did you ever stop and breathe the fresh outdoor air after being stuck inside with bronchitis?

Did you ever stop and give thanks that you can breathe and not cough constantly?

Did you ever stop, pray and thank God for taking care of you through the rough patches in your life?

Did you ever stop and tell someone that you care?

Did you ever stop and want to just gaze at the trees?

Did you ever stop and hear the birds singing?

Did you ever stop and hug your kids, your parents or your spouse and tell them exactly what they mean to you?

Did you ever stop and hope that you would be able to recover?

Did you ever stop and want to quit?

Did you ever stop and reconsider why you said that?

Did you ever stop and evaluate your motive?

Did you ever stop?  Why?

Did you ever stop following the GPS because you thought the directions didn’t feel right?

Did you ever stop believing in yourself?  Why?

Did you ever stop and consider that with God, nothing is impossible?

Did you ever stop and realize that God sees you?

Did you ever stop and consider how much you are loved by God?

Did you ever stop and just believe that God has a plan for you?

Did you ever stop and listen to the message that God prepared for you?

Did you ever stop and not do your plan but follow the right path?

Did you ever stop, look and listen to the noise that blocks out your peace?

Did you ever stop and talk with your family about old times?

Did you ever stop and consider what would please God as your next step in life?

Did you ever stop and exchange your past with the gift of peace from our Father through Jesus Christ?

Did you ever stop and ponder the power of the message in God’s word?

Did you ever stop and say, “I believe in God.  I believe that the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, lives in me as a believer.”

Did you ever stop and affirm the truth that you are chosen to do a specific work on the earth?

Did you ever stop and make adjustments to your attitude because you knew that the old one needed to go?

Did you ever stop and remember some of the most memorable days of your life?  Did you stop and smile, cry, relive the joy?

Did you ever stop and…?

I hope that my student’s question could allow you to also ponder what you might have stopped and done today.

I felt like asking myself those questions and then sharing them here. How would you respond to those “Did you ever stop and…?” questions?
